Did you know that a simple finger tapping can help you lose weight?

EFT tapping for weight loss

If you have wondered what is finger tapping and how it can be effective in reducing your excess body weight, then it is certainly the same question that arises in everyone’s mind. You might have tried consistent diet plans, fasting, or some strenuous exercises to shed some extra pounds. It could have helped you to some extent, however, it should have been a tiresome job and a time-consuming process. Evidently, all such attempts will focus only on the body system but not on your mental or metaphysical aspects.

Tapping draws a considerable lot of its standards from the old Traditional Chinese healing medication. While current culture is simply fostering an appreciation for Chinese medication’s long, rich history of accomplishment, nevertheless hasn’t been utilized extensively.

Research on Tapping and its effect on brain response

Harvard medical school research on what happens in the brain when certain acupuncture points (precisely called meridian acupoints) are stimulated on the body by tapping. The results revealed that it can significantly reduce activity in a part of your brain called the amygdala including other parts of the brain associated with negative emotions. In fMRI and PET brain scans, it was observed that the amygdala’s alarm bells were quieted when acupoints were triggered.

Another randomized controlled study—the gold standard of scientific research—led by Dr Church, and his team examined the changes in cortisol levels and psychological symptoms in 83 subjects. The study volunteers were demarcated into three groups: one group was guided by an hour-long tapping session, another received an hour of conventional talk therapy, wherein the third control group was left untreated.

They determined that a control group and talk therapy group showed only a 14 percent drop in cortisol over time, while the tapping group showed a 24 percent reduction in cortisol levels, on average, with some deviations among a few where a 50 percent decrease in cortisol was assessed. Hence this research could give a good answer if you are dubious about the technique.

How does tapping reduce stress response?

Amygdala acts as a personal alarm system. When you experience distress or fear, the amygdala is triggered and your body is inundated with cortisol, commonly known as the “stress hormone.” This intricate chain reaction – your stress response – greatly influences and at times even causes a lot of discomfort whether that’s an illness, injury, or any other issues that you are facing.

These studies prove that by stimulating these parts of your body – as we do in EFT( Emotional freedom technique) – you can drastically reduce the distress that accompanies or gives rise to these problems you face. EFT, which is also referred to as tapping or psychological acupressure is used as an alternative treatment for physical pain and emotional distress.

Many women who have become overweight do not have self-love (or at least not fully) as all they see in the mirror is a podgy, roly-poly body appearance with excess fat folds.

EFT helps you accept and start to love your body just as it is in the present moment. When you start loving your body, making choices to have good, wholesome food and exercise becomes much more effortless.

Tapping on meridian points while surmounting emotional challenges is part of an emerging field known as “energy psychology.” Based on Chinese medicine, these meridian points are considered areas of the body where energy flows, which is similar to chakras as per the Indian traditional system. These pathways assist in maintaining a balanced energy flow to your health and any imbalance could cause disease or sickness.

To date science’s research concerning exactly why EFT works have been bewildering. The outcomes uncovered why EFT Tapping is the ideal bridge between state-of-the-art Western medication and traditional medicine from the East.

EFT is not only used for bodyweight problems but also in many other issues such as post-traumatic stress disorders, chronic pain, wealth, relationships, love, etc. But here we will be dealing exclusively with weight loss.

EFT can help in several ways for weight loss:

It will decrease your food cravings quickly

It uproots emotional reasons that cause you to eat more

It re-establishes hormonal equilibrium

It cuts down the cortisol levels that trigger stress

When we battle with food cravings, food allergies, and weight issues, it is generally due to our subconscious mind’s internal objections due to habitual thinking patterns. These ‘secret’ objections are the main reasons why many fail to achieve their weight loss goals. It is therefore important to figure out and name these beliefs for what they really are so that we can finally bypass them.

Once you have stated your aim and affirmed your weight loss intention intensely, you will see the negative thoughts or emotions surfacing up to your awareness.

These thoughts usually begin with “Yeah, but…”, which are internal blocks or objections that inhibit you from reaching your goals.

A few examples of these are:

Yeah, but I won’t be able to maintain my weight loss.

Yeah, but I have to work out a lot to reach my goal.

yeah, but not even my diet plans worked how can a simple tapping work?

Yeah, but if I’ve not succeeded already, it is pointless to try again now

Yeah, but I will feel deprived of my favourite foods.

Of course, but I’m not sure if I would give up my (favourite food or habit).

Here is the basic overview to begin with:

Basic steps to apply finger-tapping techniques

Step 1: Choose your tapping target, and make a reminder phrase

Step 2: Rate the intensity of your target on the 0 to 10 Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUDS). (From totally relaxed to the highest discomfort that you ever felt). If your initial intensity was 10 prior to tapping and came down to 4 later, you’d have reached a 60 percent improvement level.

Step 3: Create a setup statement

Step 4: Tap on the right areas while repeating your setup statement thrice.

Step 5: Tap gently through the eight points in the correct tapping sequence

Weight loss scripts to follow while tapping

Below are a few affirmations to tap along with when applying  EFT for weight loss:

Even though I am a food addict, I deeply and absolutely accept myself.

Even though I am obsessed with food, I choose to love who I am.

Even though I am holding on to extra weight, I choose to release it now.

Even though part of me denies to change, I love and accept myself.

Even though part of me is fearful to change, I choose to act on my own behalf.

Even though part of me is impatient about results, I choose to remain calm and practice tapping till I achieve

Even though I feel lazy to exercise, I opt for a creative way to stay fit

Even though I have gained and lost weight several times earlier, this time, I feel it will work.

You should tap  7-8 times at each area along with a positive affirmation for optimized results. Begin by tapping the karate chop point(which is present at the centre of the fleshy part of the outside of either hand between the top of the wrist and the base of the baby finger) that is while simultaneously reciting your positive phrases for weight loss three times.

Besides, tapping ought to be performed in the correct order to get maximum benefit. For guidance, refer to the aforementioned pic with meridian points.

The following is the tapping point sequence

  • eyebrow
  • side of the eye
  • under the eye
  • under the nose
  • chin
  • beginning of the collarbone
  • under the arm

Test the final intensity

On completing your sequence, rate your intensity level on a scale from 0 to 10. Compare your results with your initial intensity level. If you haven’t reached 0, repeat this process until you accomplish it.
