The truth about subliminal messages

The subconscious mind is the part of the mind that stores memories, thoughts and feelings. It is a powerful tool that can be used to program it. The subconscious mind is capable of absorbing information from subliminal messages without the person being aware of it. Read out to know the truth about subliminal messages.

What are subliminal messages and how do they work?

Subliminal messages are the thoughts that are programmed in your subconscious mind without you knowing. This technique works with the brain’s natural tendency to store messages that are either sent through subliminal audio or video clips. The subconscious mind can be programmed to do things like stop smoking or lose weight by using hypnosis and programming techniques.

Hypnosis can be extremely effective at changing behavioural patterns, personal beliefs, bad habits, and much more. This is because it bypasses your logical mind, i.e. your conscious mind.

Your logical mind is a function you begin to develop around the age of five or six. This is the reason why children are more vulnerable and you can suggest almost anything to them and they will accept it as truth. Due to this susceptibility to suggestion at young age hypnosis or subliminal messaging is not required to create self-beliefs in a child.

When we are adults our logical mind does not let us accept all the information presented to us. Because bypassing it is critical for making any major changes in your self-beliefs, patterns of thinking, and physical behaviour. These changes would be very difficult if you use conscious learning / physical action alone. Hence by accessing your subconscious mind, you can solve difficult problems which would have been difficult otherwise.

They can be used to change your behaviour, thoughts and actions effortlessly unlike affirmations where you need to constantly utter the positive affirmations. But while listening to subliminal through audio you can do other activities like reading, talking, walking etc except vehicle driving.

Types of subliminal messages

There are two types of subliminal messages: recorded and live.

Recorded subliminal messages contain audible suggestions, which have been prerecorded on another medium, such as a cassette tape or CD, while live subliminal messages contain audible suggestions made in real-time by the speaker directly to a listener with no recording involved. The speaker’s voice is usually masked so that it cannot be distinguished from other sounds. The other type is visual (airbrushed into a picture, flashed on a screen so fast that you don’t consciously see them, or cleverly incorporated into a picture or design).

Some people believe that using subliminal messages can cause harm or injury to listeners or advertising targets because it bypasses critical thinking and may tap into the subconscious mind programming without any resistance or control on the part. Most audio subliminal reprogramming tapes offer verbal suggestions recorded at a low volume.

Recorded subliminal messages

a) Subliminals in audio

Using a subliminal audio album offers a big advantage by saving your time. You don’t have to repeat the affirmations day and night for programming your mind; it can be done in a seemingly effortless way.

Most audio subliminal reprogramming tapes offer verbal suggestions recorded at a low volume.

You can play any audio with a particular frequency like 432 Hz, 528 Hz, 639 Hz etc, binaural, trypnaural, 4D music, energy programmed audios etc embedded with subliminal messages, You don’t have to pay extra attention while listening. You can still do other things; work, study, exercise, and in fact, subliminal sleep learning is possible too.

b) Subliminals in advertising

In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in subliminal messaging as a way to influence human behaviour for business and marketing purposes. Subliminal messages have been around since the 1920s when a movie theatre owner was sued for using them to promote his snacks. The case was dismissed because there was no evidence that the messages had any effect on people’s behaviour.

Subliminal advertising, which is often called “subliminal stimuli”, can be embedded into any type of media, including pictures and sounds. This type of advertising was used by some companies to convey their messages without being noticed by the viewer. It’s believed that this type of marketing can be effective because the receiver is not aware it’s happening; therefore they are less likely to develop resistance to it.

An example of a company that used subliminal messaging in their marketing strategy is Clairol Shampoo which used hints on how to get white clothes whiter in order to promote their hair colour products.

An experiment assessed dieting results in 29 volunteers who were exposed to visual subliminal messages. The scientists concluded that processing subliminal foods may impact dieting performance.

Palmatier and Bornstein (1983) compared the results of adding subliminal messages to a package of active behavioural components. The messages were sent through the TV speaker system.

The first study administered was targeted smokers, who were given an advertisement with one of three messages: “Quit now,” “smoke more” or “Is your life worth smoking?”

They found that when participants were shown a subliminal message containing the words “smoke more”, they smoked more than when they were shown a message with no subliminal message.

The study showed that there is a link between subliminal messages and smoking behaviour. This means that people are more likely to smoke when they are exposed to such messages.

The confusion between using negative vs positive subliminal in audio/video

The effectiveness of subliminal messaging is traditionally measured by its ability to influence opinion. For example, when a message is more negative than the other messages it is surrounded with, it will likely be more persuasive.

This assumption has been changed by new research that shows that people are more apt to remember positive messages after they have been exposed to negative ones. This is because the brain interprets the first exposure as a forewarning and keeps a mental note of what the message was trying to convey.

However, in recent years, researchers have found that it’s more likely to be effective if it’s positive.

Research on subliminal message

The result of the research on subliminal messages was not only a conclusion, but a doctrine. The doctrine came from the school of psychology called behaviourism. This is a good example of persuasive communication.

Dr Kenneth Parker is a psychologist at Queens College and he researches the power of positive subliminal messages. He believes that subliminal messages can make the world a better place by creating positive thoughts in the minds of people and influencing them to do good deeds.

His latest experiment was on water conservation, which found that people consumed more water when given a subliminal message about it. He has also conducted different experiments including ones on dieting, weight loss and smoking cessation but states that the results have not been statistically significant enough to publish in his article.

1) Dr Parker did experiments with college students and recorded their anger responses to certain stimuli while they had been shown subliminal messages of ‘calm’ words.

2) He found that the responses were reduced when they were exposed to such words as ‘calm.’

The Subliminal Advertising and Marketing in America by Dr Silverman was published in 1957. It is the first book to document the results of experiments on subliminal messages and their effects on behaviour. It is a landmark work that fundamentally changed the study of advertising and marketing.

After many years of research, Dr Silverman came across very convincing evidence that subliminal messages really worked and had a big effect on human behaviour… no matter how amazing it sounds, it’s true!

Silverman (1961) conducted a study to test subliminal messages on college students. He tested 60 male and 60 female undergraduates, who were asked to watch an informational film while they were subliminally primed with either a positive or negative message.

The results showed that the students who were exposed to the positive message responded more favourably at the end of the instructional movie than did those in the control group. This is an example of how we are constantly being influenced by outside forces without even realising it. For more info check http://silentideas.com/SilentIdeas/scientific.shtml

Bottom line:

Although there are pros and cons to using subliminal messages using hypnosis or audio, it is still beneficial if you use positive subliminal programming over negative messages to make yourself better. It could be anything related to your well-being. For instance, a perfect facial symmetry, good eyesight, improved hair growth, good glow in the skin, face uplift, chiselled jawline, weight loss, alpha male hypnosis, increased muscle mass, or anything related to organ system such as unclogging blocked arteries, improved lung functioning, breathing, etc can be achieved significantly using subliminal audio messages.
